Renovated to its new glory, the Central Espoo Swimming Hall, also known as Kaivomestari, has opened to visitors! The swimming hall, designed by Jaakkola Architects and completed as a life cycle project in 2003, is located in Espoo in connection with Kuninkaantie Upper Secondary School and the Central Espoo Sports Hall. The 2025 renovations were carried out in order to prepare the site for handover to the city when the life cycle project service contract ends. The project was ahead of its time even in the year of construction, as it was Finland’s first public-private real estate “PPP” partnership project.
The Central Espoo Swimming Hall features a 25-meter four-lane pool, 12.5-meter therapy and teaching pools, as well as a jacuzzi and a children’s paddling pool. In addition to traditional saunas, there is also an aroma sauna. Close attention was paid to choosing durable materials during the renovation, and the washrooms and saunas, for example, experienced the most spectacular transformation. The Central Espoo swimming pool is open to customers during opening hours and is definitely worth a visit.
